FAW-VW sells over 360,000 vehicles in Q1
Gasgoo.com (Shanghai April 10) - FAW-Volkswagen has officially released its production and sales statistics for the first quarter of the year, gmw.cn reported today. According to the statistics, the joint venture manufactured and sold 367,553 vehicles and 366,246 vehicles, respectively. The sales figure represents year-on-year growth of 37.2 percent.
Among the joint venture's two own brands, quarterly sales of VWs grew 49.1 percent from last year, totaling 264,444 units, while Audi sales increased 13.7 percent, totaling 101,802 units. Audi's sales figures for the first three months of the year were 37,428 units, 30,068 units and 34,306 units.
2013 will be a very important year to see how competitive the FAW-VW JV can be, Board Chairman and President An Tiecheng stated. Following releases of updated versions of the New Sagitar, Magotan, A6L, A4L and New Bora in 2012, the JV plans to introduce even more new models this year, with the aim of achieving strong sales results in each of its respective segments.
The New Jetta (pictured), which made its debut in early March, is the first new model to be released this year. It has made a strong contribution to the Jetta family's overall sales, which totaled 26,238 units in the month of its release, up 28.4 percent from last March. The New Jetta is the second model to be produced at FAW-VW's new Chengdu factory, which also manufactures the New Sagitar.
