FAW-VW's new engine factory in Chengdu begins operation
Gasgoo.com (Shanghai April 15) - Construction on FAW Volkswagen's new engine factory in Sichuan's capital of Chengdu has officially been completed, Beijing News reported today. The factory, which has been under construction for nearly three years now, will be able to manufacture 450,000 engines annually. The factory will play an important role in easing supply limitations for the joint venture's three major automobile production sites.
Work on the 16,000 sq. m. Chengdu factory, which will employ 900 workers, begun in mid-July 2011. The site will primarily manufacture the EA211 engine in both 1.4 L and 1.6 L displacements. The EA211 engines, which power the New Jetta, New Bora and New Sagitar (pictured), can also be used in VW's BlueMotion drive trains.
