BYD begins production of new engine and transmission to be used in upcoming SUV

Gasgoo.com (Shanghai May 14) - Production of BYD's new 2.0 L turbocharged direct injection engines and 6DT35 dual-clutch transmission systems has begun at the manufacturer's production site in Shenzhen, Guangdong, the Beijing Youth Daily reported today.

The new engine can produce up to 205 hp and 320 Nm of torque, and can be mated with the new six-speed dual-clutch transmission. Both the engine and transmission are entirely self-developed, with BYD possessing full intellectual rights to the technology. Both parts will be first used in the upcoming BYD S7 SUV (pictured below), which is scheduled to be released in May 2014 with a price tag of between 170,000 yuan and 200,000 yuan ($27,424-$32,263).
