Volvo sells over 4400 vehicles in China in May
Gasgoo.com (Shanghai June 5) - Volvo sold a total of 4,415 vehicles in China last month, chinanews.com reported today. The figure represents year-on-year sales growth of 24.4 percent for the manufacturer. Volvo's cumulative sales from January to May totaled 22,905 units, 26.9 percent higher than the amount it sold in the first five months of last year. That growth rate is far higher than the average for the domestic luxury car market, and is the highest among Volvo's various regional sales growth rates around the world.
The Volvo's 60 series remained its key source of sales in the Chinese market, with the XC60 SUV (pictured above), S60 (pictured below) and V60 managing to post May sales of 2,065 units, 998 units and 547 units, respectively. Sales of the V40 compact luxury car reached 659 units in its first month on the market.
In order to fulfill its role as an official partner of the 2013 Fortune Global Forum in Chengdu, Sichuan, Volvo will hold a ceremony handing over cars to the forum later today. The manufacturer will supply 200 of its flagship long-wheelbase S80L midsize executive sedans for official use at the event.
Volvo Car China President and CEO Fu Qiang hold high prospects for the manufacturer's future prospects in the country. "Currently, Volvo is experiencing rapid growth in China," Mr. Fu boasted, adding that the manufacturer is planning to release updated versions of several of its models in the latter half of the year with the aim of increasing its overall market share in the country.
