Volkswagen Chases New Energy Car in China, China Made Timetable Made Already

Toyota will face its strong competitor in new energy car in China in the coming future.

Volkswagen publishes its new energy car development strategy, which makes a timetable for hybrid and new energy auto introducing into China market. It is the second hybrid auto accessories China made foreign company after Toyota.

“Plug-in hybrid electronic vehicles (PHEV) are key area for Volkswagen development in China. Volkswagen has introduced Panamera S E-Hybrid into China already, and will introduce more new energy cars into different segments in the future.” Heizmann, CEO of Volkswagen Auto Group (China) said. Meanwhile, Volkswagen announces that pure electronic car will launch Chinese market by exported.

According to Volkswagen (China) announcement, Volkswagen will sell PHEV and pure electronic cars in China from 2013/2014 year. Volkswagen stresses that PHEV and pure electronic car will be the next battle for the company.

Meanwhile, Volkswagen Auto Group new energy China made project has been initialed officially.

“We have not made decision for new plant building location, and which part will be allocated to produce in China. But we will have next step for new energy layout.” Volkswagen (China) inner staff told reporter.

Volkswagen builds its reputation in auto new energy area globally, but the company has not identified its achievement in Chinese auto market yet. For a long time, Volkswagen introduces power start-stop technology. The technology belongs to mini hybrid new energy skill, which using electronic power only at car starts, but most of time using fuel still. Although Volkswagen has introduced hybrid power on part of its products, it does not take it as major technology, but DSG and FSI.

From technology perspective, first phrase of new energy is mini hybrid, and then HEV, PHEV, the highest technology is pure electronic vehicle. At present, Volkswagen still prefer mini hybrid in China and far away from Toyota. Toyota makes its Prius China made as early as 2012.
