Mercedes-Benz: 11 new models will enter Chinese market in 5 five years

Gasgoo.com (Shanghai Oct 8) “By the year of 2020, Mercedes-Benz will introduce 30 model series to the global market and 11 of them will be brand new”, said Jianjun[l1]Duan, executive vice president in sales and market operations of Beijing Mercedes-Benz Sales Service Co., Ltd, during an innovation day event in Beijing.

According to the carmaker’s plan, in a bid to narrow the gap between Mercedes-Benz and other luxury brands such as Audi and BMW, a new sporty SUV model GLE, which is a variant of ML, will officially launch Chinese market in this October and another SUV GLC, a replacement of the domestically manufactured GLK, will also hit the market before the end of this year. Besides all this mass-market models, Mercedes-Benz will also introduce more Coupe and non-mainstream models to meet the increasingly diverse needs of the Chinese consumers.

To be noted, Mercedes-Benz will introduce more diesel models to the Chinese market, even under the shadow posed by the Volkswagen emissions-cheating scandal. Duan believes, “Diesel represents one of the clean energy choices of the future, and we will introduce more diesel models in the following years.” For the time being, Mercedes-Benz only has 2 diesel models, namely ML350CDI and GL350CDI, in the market.
