Maruti domestic vehicle sales up 10% in May

Maruti Udyog Ltd sold 55,952 vehicles in the domestic market in May, up 10% from 50,904 vehicles sold in same month last year.

Total sales in May stood at 59,400 vehicles, including 3,448 units of exports, India’s leading car maker said.

Volume in the domestic C segment grew by 22.7%, the company said.

In the A3 segment, sales grew by 103.8%, while the A2 segment posted 7.8% growth during the month.

The company’s Maruti 800 sales fell 19.1% to 5,456 in May, while that of Omni and Versa grew 22.7% to 6,496.

In the A2 segment, the company registered a growth of 7.8% in sales of Alto, Wagon-R, Zen and Swift to 38,889.

In A3 segment, sales of SX4, Esteem and Baleno models totaled 5,009, up 103.8%.

The monthly sales numbers failed to enthuse the stock market. At 40:42 am on the National Stock Exchange, the Maruti share was up just 0.76% at Rs 823.30.
