VW and Shanghai VW co-produce new Passat

German VW AG and Shanghai VW concluded an agreement of developing new generation mid segment sedan. Both parties' officials presented the signing ceremony.

According to the agreement, the two sides will co-develop a new generation of B segment sedan as a next Gen Passat, China and NA auto markets are their major market, and Shanghai VW's research and development will gradually integrated into VW global R&D system.

Shanghai VW will mainly develop the body design, exterior and interior accessory, based on its various cutthroat technologies and facilities.

Shanghai VW R&D center is capable of developing self made vehicles, and the achievements and products developed by Shanghai VW and its partner German VW are as following:

In 1994, the two parties co-developed Santana2000;

In 1999, the two parties co-developed Passat;

In 2002, Shanghai VW developed Santana3000;

In 2003, Shanghai VW developed Passat Linyu, Polo hatchback and notchback;

In 2006, brand new concept car NEEZA debuted in Beijing Auto Show;

In 2007, Shanghai VW and VW will co-develop new generation of Passat.
