Jianghuai Automobile Co (JAC), one of the three leading manufacturers that produce  both passenger vehicles and commercial vehicles, has recently unveiled its plan to launch a new passenger vehicle model called Bingyue in September, according to a Shanghai Securities News report today.

"It's a good opportunity for Jianghuai to enter the sedan market which will grow 30% annually in the next five to ten years," said Yan Gang, a senior JAC Group manager in charge of the production of commercial vehicles. "It's essential for Jianghuai to develop sedan products as a way to avert the risks of depending solely on commercial vehicles and buses.

JAC also laid out plans to introduce 6 new sedan models in the next two years, making the company capable of producing a complete product series by 2010. "It will focus on the development of home-made brand vehicles, the expansion of commercial vehicle markets as well as environmentally friendly and energy-saving product designs in the next five years," Yan said.

Price of Binyue will be unveiled this August and spot goods will be available at the dealers later in September, said An Jin, general manager of the JAC Group.

With a full annual production capacity of 200,000 units, Binyue's assembly line is still under construction.

"The model is still in experimental stage and mass production will come after that," An Jin added. "Sales target for the Binyue sedan is 3,000 units by the end of this year.
