Shanghai GM regains No.1 place in Chinese market

Shanghai. October 10 (Gasgoo.com) Shanghai General Motors has regained its place as best selling automaker in the Chinese market in September after the American automaker had lost No. 1 place to Volkswagen in Chinese market in five consecutive months earlier this year, according to official statistics released today.

In September, Shanghai GM sold 44,741 vehicles, up 21.2 percent from a year earlier; in the first nine months this year; Shanghai GM sold 347,477 vehicles, up 17.1 percent from one year earlier.

Excelle, which sold 19,462 vehicles in September, has become the most powerful driving force behind Shanghai GM sales record. The model sold 13,035 vehicles in July and 15,093 vehicles in August in Chinese market. 

Also in September, Shanghai GM's low middle segment vehicle, Lova, sold 7,352 units, which represent a 95.6 percent increase year on year, but a 6.5 percent decrease month-on-month.

Shanghai GM's other two high-end models, Lacrosse sold 5,448 units in September and GL8 sold 3,989 units, both up 4.3 percent year-on-year.

FAW sold one million vehicles in the first nine months

Shanghai. October 12 (Gasgoo.com) First Automobile Works (FAW) sold 12,8377 vehicles in September, up 21.4 percent from a year earlier; meanwhile the company sold 1.05 million vehicles in the first nine months, according to Shanghai Securities News.

To break it down, FAW sold 827,000 sedans in the first nine months, up 25.4 percent and 115,000 light and heavy trucks, up 42.1 percent from one year earlier.

In September, FAW sold 103,000 sedans, up 26.4 percent and 12,000 light and heavy trucks, up 1.6 percent from one year earlier.

Powered by its popular Magoton model, FAW-VW sold most 34,535 sedans in first nine months, ranked the third among China's sedan makers.



Ford sold 149,455 vehicles in Chinese market in first nine months, up 30%

Shanghai. October 10 (Gasgoo.com) - In the first nine months this year, Ford Motors sold 149,455 vehicle (including all brands in Ford family), up 30 percent from one year earlier, the company announced on its web site today.

The Ford family brands include Ford series, Lincoln, Jaguar, Land Rover.

In the same period, Ford sold 135,073 units of its own brands, which include both locally made in China and imported vehicles, an increase of 27 percent from a year earlier.

Last month, Ford has established a second plant in Nanjing with its Chinese partner Changan and Japanese partner Mazda. The new plant has an annual output capacity of 160,000 units.

"The combined annual output capacity of our plants in Chongqing and Nanjing plant would reach 400,000 units," said Chen Meiwei, CEO and President of Ford Motors China. "We have also started a R&D center in Nanjing."

Currently, Ford has a total annual output capacity (including brands not belonging to Ford cars family) of 460,000 vehicles, up 53 percent from a year earlier.

Land Rover sales in China surge 101% in first nine months

Shanghai. October 10 (Gasgoo.com) - Land Rover has sold 4,286 vehicles in the Chinese market in the first nine months this year, which represents an increase of 101 percent year on year, Shanghai Securities Journal reported today.

In the third quarter alone, Land Rover has sold a total of 1,747 vehicles, up 210 percent year on year.

"We are satisfied with Land Rover's performance here, "said Martin Baker, managing director of Land Rover (China), adding that September sales has reached a record high since its entry into the Chinese market.
