Kia: production at second Chinese plant not delayed

Shanghai. October 16 (Gasgoo.com) - Kia Motors,South Korea's second-largest automaker denied  an earlier report that the company has delayed the commercial production of its second plant in China.
 
The company spokesman declared its second factory has already been in operation since early October. Located in Yancheng, Jiangsu province in east China, the plant has an annual output capacity of 300,000 units.
 
Yonhap news agency reported yesterday that Kia had delayed commercial production at the Yancheng plant, slated to be started this month, amid sluggish demand in China.
 
The spokesman added that the company would endeavor to meet the sales target of 145,000 units for 2007, up 26 percent from the previous year. During the first nine months, Kia delivered 72,800 vehicles to Chinese market, down from 85,200 units during the same period in 2006.
