Shanghai. October 19 (Gasgoo.com) Shanghai VW, may release its own brand vehicles next year, Shanghai Securities News reported today.

The September sales of Santana dropped 60 percent from a month earlier. Insiders say, the halt of Santana production is related to Shanghai VW's secret plan to develop its own brand.

"The brand, which will be based on the platform of a concept car Neeza, is likely to take over Santana 3000," The newspaper cited an insider as saying.

In July this year, Guangzhou Honda announced its plan to develop its own brand. Shanghai VW is likely to become the second joint venture automaker to develop its own brand in China.

In addition to developing its own brand, Shanghai VW is also planning to deliver an improved version of Santana 3000, Crosspolo and an improved version of Touran by the end of this year or earlier next year.
