Shanghai. October 23 (Gasgoo.com) - Shanghai General Motors has no plan to produce Opel in China, a company official said in an interview with Beijing Morning Post recently.

"GM doesn't expect to realize mass scale production of Opel in China," said Liu Yuehai, Shanghai GM's marketing director, adding that the brand is, however, an ideal supplement to Shanghai GM's product lines in China.

Asked whether it is because GM has too much brands in this market, Liu said the company just wants to avoid overlapping production with Buick brands.

Opel is called Vauxhall in Europe and Saturn in North America. The company has sold roughly 3,000 Opel vehicles in the first eight months this year in China.

The automaker will also expand its sales network in China to offer inclusive after-sales services to customers. Opel will have 60 dealers by the end of this year compared to just 40 dealers in 2006.
