Gasgoo.com (Shanghai Jan 11) - Geely enjoyed a fast growth in the bearish China’s auto industry in 2015, with sales jumping 22% from a year earlier to 509,800 units, yet far behind its target in the “12th five-year” period of 2 million-vehicle sales. Therefore, the automaker resorted to technique cooperation with Volvo, its subordinate, and shifting its strategic focus onto alternative energy vehicles.

Other than enjoying some of Volvo’s high-end techniques, the automaker also strived to leverage the synergy effect between the high-end image of Volvo and the brand image of Geely. In December 2015, Geely sold 53,600 vehicles, including 23,400 Emgrand vehicles, 5,139 SUV vehicles, 13,100 the New Vision units, 5,504 Null vehicles.

Geely intended to raise alternative energy vehicle sales to more than one million by 2020, accounting for more than 90% of the overall sales goal of that period, as the automaker had clarified that nearly all new products would be alternative energy vehicles and intellectually interconnected vehicles, gradually dropping traditional petrol vehicles. An Conghui, CEO of the automaker declared that Geely establishing such a goal is not to compare it with other companies’, but fully based on its own condition.
