BYD Released its 2016 Plans for Alternative Energy Vehicles

Gasgoo.com (Shanghai Feb 19th)– BYD Auto, among other 11 Chinese domestic carmakers, has released its strategic plan for alternative energy vehicles in 2016.

Last year, the sales of BYD’s alternative energy cars have increased an astonishing 234.7% to around 62,000 units, including 32,000 BYD Qin, which has totaled 47,000 sales since its debut. BYD also sold more than 18,000 BYD Tang, and this hybrid SUV has created a monthly sales record among Chinese domestic alternative energy models last December with 5,503 units. The value of BYD’s alternative energy vehicles has totaled 22 billion RMB in 2015, exceeding traditional vehicles’ 19 billion RMB for the very first time in history.

As by now, BYD’s electric vehicles have hit the road in around 160 cities all over the world, including London, Amsterdam, Los Angeles, Kyoto and more than 50 Chinese cities. Encouraged by the expanding market, this Chinese domestic carmaker plans to ramp up its production by 4 - 6GWh and double its sales on a yearly basis for the following 3 years.

In 2016, BYD will invest a battery production line in Kengzi, Shenzhen, which will begin production in the middle of 2017. Meanwhile, the carmaker will also build a power battery production line in Qinghai around 2017, which will begin production in 2018 and expand to 10GWh by 2020.

BYD will introduce 10 new models and derivatives this year. A pure electric version and a plug-in version of SUV Song will make their debut while the company will also introduce an EV Qin and a plug-in version of SUV Yuan. Besides, BYD’s alternative energy flagship BYD Yuan, a full size AWD SUV powered by a V6 engine with 2 driving modes, will debut in 2017.
