Drive-E Engine: Volvo aims at future demand
Gasgoo (Shanghai, August 20th)—Volvo is planning for its future from all aspects, from concise designing style to energy-saving and emission-reducing products. The widely applicable Drive-E intelligent technology shows its target in future demand, along with its concept in global auto area and product strengths.
In the first half of 2016, Volvo’s global sales volume increases 10.5% with 2015 to 256,563 units. The sales volume in Chinese marketincreases 6.3%, keeping a healthy growth. It’s remarkable that 2017-version XC60, its mainstream model in Chinese market, embraces a great change that all XC60 four-wheel models are equippedwith Drive-E engines.
Besides, another highly-expected 2017-version V40 and other generated models all equip with Drive-E engines. It can be concluded that Drive-E engine has become the greatest spotlight for Volvo’s newly-launched models in China. “In the future ten years, China will carry out the world’s strictest fuel-consumption standard, in consequence of its high fuel consumption." Experts say.
The key point in fuel-consumption lies in higher efficiency, lowering mechanical losses and electrification in the future, which is just the key point and advantages for Volvo. Drive-E is one of Volvo’s three innovative technologies, and also Volvo’s key technology. The future development of Drive-E dynamic system includes three phrases: continuously improving traditional power plants, PHEV and BEV.
The letter “E”contains three notions: Efficient power, Electrification and Environment. It aims to breakout the constraint of cylinders and emissions, searching for loweremission, higher efficiency and balance between power and environment. Volvo’s Zhangjiakou Engine Factory has been put into operation in April, 2016, marking Volvo’s leading auto and engine platforms based on SPA and Drive-E have located in China, forming a wholeindustrial chain in China with other two factories in Chengdu and Daqing.
Zhangjiakou Engine Factory is Volvo’s second engine factory across the world, and it’s also the only engine production base outside Europe. The Drive-E engines, produced by Zhangjiakou Factory, have been equipped on domestic Volvo XC60, S60L and S60 Inscription as well.
