Delphi Packard Electric Systems opens new plant in Shanghai

Shanghai. December 12 (Gasgoo.com) – Delphi Packard Electrical/Electronic Architecture (E/EA), a division of Delphi Corporation, officially opened its electrical/electronic distribution systems (E/EDS) plant, also known as Delphi Packard Shanghai A5 plant today, according to the company's press release.

Majdi Abulaban, president, Delphi Connection Systems and managing director, Delphi Packard E/EA Asia Pacific, Choon T. Chon, vice president of Delphi Corporation and president of Delphi Asia Pacific, Frank Wang, China managing director of Delphi Packard E/EA, Wu Kaiyuan, Shanghai A5 plant managing director, as well as some local government officials attended the grand opening ceremony.

"The launch of this new plant will enable us to continue to localize world-class manufacturing and technological development capabilities, which is another important strategic step in growing our business in China and Asia Pacific," said Majdi Abulaban.

Located in Anting town, west suburb of Shanghai, the plant covers an area of 23,611 sqm. It will take on the production of the former Delphi Yuanguo Plant, which was the first Delphi Packard plant established in Shanghai. Following its relocation to the new site, the plant will produce one million wiring harness systems per year, a capacity increase of 80 percent.

Established in 1995, Delphi Packard E/EA is now the largest E/EDS supplier in China. Currently the company has seven plants in China mainland, with two more scheduled to open in Wuhu and Shanghai next year. Its major OEM customers include SAIC, Shanghai-GM, Dongfeng Nissan, FAW-Toyota and some local automakers like Chery and Brilliance.
