Experts predict 14.8 percent growth of China's domestic market in 2008

Shanghai. January 24 (Gasgoo.com) – China's domestic auto sales are likely to hit 9.75 million units this year, up 14.8 percent from last year, according to a report released by State Information Center, a government-run think-tank affiliated to China's central government.
 
The State Information Center report says China may sell 10.23 million domestically-made vehicles in 2008, up 15.9 percent year-on-year. In 2008, China may import 290,000 vehicles, up 16 percent year-on-year, export 770,000 vehicles, up 30.5 percent year-on -year.
 
The report said the prediction will make China maintain its position as the second largest market worldwide, following America.
 
Official figures revealed that China turned out 8.79 million automobiles in 2007, 21.84 percent from the previous year, surpassing the eight million prediction made at the beginning of 2007.
 
The country is also stepping up its research and development into clean-energy vehicles, including electric, fuel cell and hybrid automobiles, and is studying the possibility of implementing a so-called emission tax by the second half of this year.
