Shanghai. February 28 (Gasgoo.com) – Dongfeng Peugeot aims to sell a total of 130,000 vehicles in Chinese market this year, an increase of 40 percent from one year earlier, a senior company official said.

At the ceremony to launch hatchback Peugeot 307, Jean-Yves Dossal, director of the Peugeot brand at Dongfeng Peugeot Citroen Automobile Co said his company plans to sell over 100,000 Peugeot 307 vehicles, including 60,000 Peugeot 307 sedans, 40,000 Peugeot 307 hatchbacks and 30,000 Peugeot 206.

The hatchback version of Peugeot 307, essentially, has no difference from Peugeot 307 sedan, according to an insider from Dongfeng PSA Peugeot. “The only difference is that the hatchback version is 270 mm shorter than standard Peugeot 307. And they are equipped with the same 1.6 Liter or 2.0 Liter engines and gearboxes.”

The hatchback version will be priced over RMB 110,000 yuan ($15,068), slightly higher than a standard Peugeot 307, which is priced at RMB 109,800 yuan ($15,040).

Dongfeng Peugeot’s problem is that its product portfolio in Chinese market is too inadequate, Dossal said. To deal the problem, Peugeot plans to introduce one more new car model to Chinese market by the end of this year.

Separately, Chinese newspaper reported that Peugeot 407 is expected to be locally produced in China by 2009.

Last year, Dongfeng Peugeot sold 63,661 Peugeot 307 vehicles and 28,558 Peugeot 206 vehicles in Chinese market.
