Geely to pop Volvo’s 1.5T engine; carrying by 10 new cars

SHANGHAI December 6th, （Gasgoo）–This year, Geely has listed 4 3.0 elite vehicles, including NL-3, Emgrand GS, Vision SUV and Emgrand GL. At the same time the brand deployed work for the platform, new vehicles, core technologies, etc. Engine is playing an important role in the future development of Geely.

IIA Sources show that, Geely is to build engine plants in Taizhou, Zhejiang Province and Guiyang, Guizhou province respectively. With the plants built up, annual capacity of the 15TD engine components, produced for Geely and Volvo models, will reach 360 thousand.

The planned 15TD engine, which adopts a layout of three cylinders, is a small-displacement engine jointly researched and developed by Geely and Volvo based on Drive-E 2.0T four-cylinder engine. It has a maximum power of 132kw and a power output with a peak torque of 265nm.

Besides traditional powers, the 1.5T three-cylinder engine will also combine with electromotor to form a hybrid power system, and to reduce the emission further. As for Drivetrain, the 15TD engine will be matched with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.

The brand new 15TD engine is to replace the existing 4G15, 4G18, 1.8T and 2.0L, 2.4L engines for the promotion of vehicle power technologies and power performance. What’s more, the new engine is able to meet the requirement of Europe’s emission regulations, and lay the root for exports of CMA, FE, GC9 and NL-3  in batches.

Geely also launched a 1.0L three-cylinder turbocharged engine named JLF-3G10TD in this year’s Guangzhou Auto Show. The engine has a maximum power of 100kw and a peak torque of 205nm. It is expected to be massively produced next year.
