GAC January sales jump 25 percent

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Guangzhou Automobile Group (GAC) sold 210,151 vehicles in January, 2018, jumping 25.1 percent compared with 167,968 units of the same period last year. GAC Group delivered over 2 million vehicles in 2017, setting a new high record.

In the first month of this year, GAC Motor handed over 61,231 vehicles, surging 32.33 percent year on year. Based on its outstanding sales performance of last year, the self-owned brand under GAC Group aims to sell 700,000 vehicles this year while its January sales accounted for nearly 10 percent of its annual target.

GAC Honda also completed nearly one tenth of its annual sales target last month. The January sales of the joint venture totaled 72,449 units, surging 38.41 percent from a year earlier. And its annual sales target was set at 750,000 units. It is said that GAC Honda will introduce more than 5 models this year, including new Fit and new-gen Acura RDX.

Relatively speaking, GAC Toyota saw a lower growth rate of its monthly sales. The joint venture with Toyota sold 45,591 vehicles in January, with just a slight increase from a year earlier. GAC Toyota targets to sell 500,000 vehicles in 2018, with the help of many new models, including the first SUV based on TNGA, C-HR, the new battery electric vehicle ix4 EV.

Last month, GAC Mitsubishi sales achieved substantial growth. Its sales soared 96 percent to 15,682 units. Last year, GAC Mitsubishi completed its annual sales target with the highest growth rate among all subsidiaries. In 2018, the joint venture will release at least one new model, set up a world-class engine plant and increase another 100 dealerships. 

At the North American International Auto Show, GAC Group presented a brand-new sedan model and a concept car as well as its existing sedan, SUV, minivan and NEV, demonstrating its determination to enter the North American market. Yu Jun, President of GAC Motor, said that with an aim to become a global automaker, GAC Group will continue to design products that will meet different needs of customers worldwide.
