Geely said to launch EV architecture in 2021

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Chinese automaker Geely will formally launch next year its EV architecture and the EV models built on the platform, according to a local media outlet, citing An Conghui, President and CEO of Geely Auto Group.

The model based on the yet-to-be-launched architecture is expected to be unveiled at the 2020 Beijing International Automobile Exhibition that is to kick off on September 26, according to the aforesaid local report.

The all-new EV architecture will reportedly produce autonomous driving-related products and technologies. Li Donghui, executive vice president and CFO of Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, noted that Geely will maintain a high level of R&D expense in the second half of 2020. According to the semi-annual financial result released on August 17, Geely Automobile Holdings Limited and its subsidiaries recognized a total expense of 1,721.4 million yuan ($248,420,040) in the Jan.-Jun. period, jumping 15.76% over the previous year.

In April 2019, Geely launched its BEV-focused brand dubbed Geometry. The brand's first mass-produced model, the Geometry A, hit the market on the same day.

Following the Geometry A, the Geometry C, the second mass-produced and first SUV model of Geometry, formally went on sale on August 7. Post-subsidy prices of its five trim levels range from 129,800 yuan ($18,732) to 182,800 yuan ($26,380).

Geometry launched on May 10 its first open-source technology sharing platform “Geometry +”, which is designed to share with the industry its technologies of autonomous driving and ICV, and incubate various technical creative ideas.

At the live-streaming launching ceremony, Feng Qingfeng, vice president of Geely Auto Group, said the “Geometry +” will gradually open up its expertise in autonomous driving, ICV (intelligent-connected vehicle) and core technologies related to EVs and industrial design.
