Shanghai eyes over 1.2 million units in NEV annual outputs by 2025

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Shanghai expects its annual new energy vehicle (NEV) output volume to exceed 1.2 million units and the output value of the NEV industry to top 350 billion yuan ($54.073 billion) per year by 2025, according to a plan released by Shanghai municipal government on July 14.

As part of efforts to increase use of NEVs, Shanghai will vigorously popularize NEVs in such field as private car, bus, taxi, official vehicle, logistics service, and garbage truck, perfect the deployment of EV charging and battery swapping facilities, and speed up the construction of hydrogen-refueling stations.

Besides, Shanghai will move faster on making breakthroughs in core components like high-performance power battery, high-power/-density electric drive and control systems, and encourage local leading companies to roll out more high-end products with great core competence. To shore up the innovation and development of fuel cell vehicles (FCVs) in the Yangtze River Delta, Shanghai will build a city cluster for the demonstration of FCVs and strive to achieve industrialized production of the core parts like fuel cell stack, membrane electrode, and bipolar plate.

According to the aforementioned plan, Shanghai aims to make world-leading achievements in the general technical level and application scale of intelligent-connected vehicles (ICVs), and make ICVs commercially viable in specific scenarios by 2025. To achieve the goal, the megacity will redouble efforts to make breakthroughs in core technologies including the perception of complex environment, new types of electrical/electronic architecture, and drive-by-wire actuator system; promote the R&D and industrialization of in-car visual system, LiDAR, millimeter-wave radar, automotive-grade chip, and other key components; boost the applications of AI, high-precision positioning, and 5G-enabled communications technologies in ICVs; build a nation-level platform for the innovation and development of ICVs.
