New energy vehicle exports continue to grow丨Top 10 destinations by BYD's passenger vehicle shipments (Jan.-Jul. 2025)
According to data compiled by the Gasgoo Automotive Research Institute, from January to July 2025 BYD's passenger vehicle exports continued to grow steadily, with the top 10 destinations covering key markets in South America, Europe, Southeast Asia and the Middle East. Brazil and Mexico remained the leading markets in South America; Belgium and the UK served as major distribution and consumption hubs in Europe; Indonesia and the Philippines in Southeast Asia showed strong growth potential for new energy vehicles (NEVs); and the UAE ranked among the top 10 for the first time.
BYD's export footprint became increasingly diversified, advancing both its battery electric passenger vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrid electric passenger vehicles (PHEVs) in parallel. The company expanded simultaneously across major emerging and mature markets worldwide, underscoring its solid position and strong growth momentum in the global NEV market.
Here are the top 10 destination countries by BYD passenger vehicle exports from January to July, with detailed data:
Brazil: 29,461 battery electric passenger vehicles and 51,575 plug-in hybrid electric passenger vehicles, totaling 81,036 units.
Mexico: 31,350 battery electric passenger vehicles and 42,829 plug-in hybrid electric passenger vehicles, totaling 74,179 units.
Belgium: 39,382 battery electric passenger vehicles and 32,932 plug-in hybrid electric passenger vehicles, totaling 72,314 units.
UK: 22,738 battery electric passenger vehicles and 19,209 plug-in hybrid electric passenger vehicles, totaling 41,947 units.
Turkey: 13,166 battery electric passenger vehicles and 16,951 plug-in hybrid electric passenger vehicles, totaling 30,117 units.
Indonesia: 29,773 battery electric passenger vehicles.
Australia: 18,547 battery electric passenger vehicles and 7,140 plug-in hybrid electric passenger vehicles, totaling 25,687 units.
Spain: 10,680 battery electric passenger vehicles and 9,358 plug-in hybrid electric passenger vehicles, totaling 20,038 units.
Philippines: 3,768 battery electric passenger vehicles and 11,849 plug-in hybrid electric passenger vehicles, totaling 15,617 units.
UAE: 6,000 battery electric passenger vehicles and 7,042 plug-in hybrid electric passenger vehicles, totaling 13,042 units.
From January to July 2025, Brazil and Mexico ranked as BYD's top two export destinations for passenger vehicles, together accounting for more than 150,000 units. BYD exported 81,036 units to Brazil (29,461 BEVs and 51,575 PHEVs). Since 2024, Brazil has gradually reinstated import tariffs on NEVs and mandated an annual increase in July. As a result, BYD exported only 3,132 units to Brazil in July 2025, down more than 50% from 6,847 units in June, underscoring the immediate impact of policy changes on shipment volumes.
Mexico followed closely, overtaking Belgium — which ranked second in the first half—with a total of 74,179 units exported (31,350 BEVs and 42,829 PHEVs). The strong performance in these two countries made South America an increasingly important growth hub for BYD's overseas markets.
In Europe, BYD also delivered a strong export performance. Belgium ranked third with 72,314 units, leveraging its hub position in automotive logistics and distribution, with a large share of vehicles subsequently redistributed to key markets such as Germany and France. The UK and Spain imported 41,947 and 20,038 units respectively, with a relatively balanced mix of BEVs and PHEVS, indicating broad consumer acceptance of both technology pathways in these markets.
Southeast Asia had become one of the fastest-growing regional markets for China's NEV exports. As local governments rolled out incentive policies, improved charging infrastructure, and promoted greener mobility, Chinese automakers such as BYD accelerated their market and production deployment in the region. From January to July 2025, BYD exported 29,773 BEVs to Indonesia, ranking sixth among BYD's export destinations. During the same period, it exported a total of 15,617 passenger vehicles to the Philippines—including 3,768 BEVs and 11,849 PHEVs—ranking ninth, with PHEVs making up the majority of its export structure.
Despite its long-term reliance on oil, the UAE actively promoted green mobility and supporting infrastructure under its "2050 Energy Strategy." With an import volume of 13,042 vehicles, it entered BYD's top 10 passenger vehicle export destinations for the first time in 2025, surpassing Israel and emerging as a significant new growth market in the region.
Overall, from January to July 2025, BYD's cumulative exports to its top 10 markets exceeded 400,000 units, covering Latin America, Europe, the Asia-Pacific region, and the Middle East, demonstrating a "multi-pronged growth" pattern. Policy support, geographic advantages, and local industrial infrastructure served as the main driving factors behind this performance.
