In order to BMW’s successful development in the Chinese market, BMW Group and Brilliance China Auto Ltd. together submitted the program proposal for setting up a China and foreign joint venture---BMW Brilliance Automotive Ltd. in December 2001. 2003, the joint venture Brilliance BMW started its operation officially.

On May 20, 2004, BMW Group and Brilliance China Auto Ltd celebrated the official inauguration for their joint venture’s plant in Shenyang, capital city of Liaoning Province.

In 2005, BMW Brilliance has delivered 15,300 units to customers of the BMW 3 Series and 5 Series. During the first three quarters of 2006, the sales volume of BMW 3 Series and 5 Series has surpassed the gross that of the one in 2005.

According to BMW's quality audit of its BMW-brand production plants in 2004, the Shenyang plant consistently meets BMW's high standards, specifically in regard to the production process, quality control and advanced technology systems.

Currently BMW Brilliance Automotive Ltd has around 70 dealers outlets with a goal set to increase this number to 80 by the end of 2007. This extended dealer network will bring BMW products and services closer to regional markets and consumer. It also opens up strategically important markets in the booming Asian region
