WeRide lands strategic investment from GAC Group for large-scale Robotaxi operation

Beijing (Gasgoo)- China’s leading autonomous driving (AD) startup, WeRide, has received a strategic investment from named automaker, GAC Group to further cement their relationship, the startup announced on December 14th.

The partners plan to enhance their joint development and manufacturing of Robotaxis and form a fleet of tens of thousands of Robotaxis in the coming years.

Through the partnership, WeRide and GAC Group aim to construct a comprehensive framework that covers the technology, products, and commercialization of Robotaxis. With WeRide’s mature AD technology and Robotaxi operating experience, the startup should be on track to lead the Robotaxi industry.

Moreover, GAC Group offers a vehicle platform with redundancy systems that suit WeRide’s L4 autonomous driving technologies.

Building on GAC’s X-Soul, the newly launched electronic and electrical architecture, the partners have co-developed a new Robotaxi model. X-Soul innovative modular design fully satisfies WeRide’s requirements for the next generation of Robotaxi.

In addition, with GAC Group’s efficient and flexible production lines and ample resources in the automotive supply chain, the partners are able to mass-produce WeRide Robotaxis at a relatively low cost.

Adding WeRide’s leading L4 autonomous driving technologies, the two parties aim to build a safe, green, affordable, self-driving mobility service that operates on a large scale to the public.
