The G9 model is the first mass-produced autonomous vehicle in China to obtain road-testing certification without hardware modifications, utilizing only upgraded autonomous driving software, said XPeng. In addition, the company plans to launch a Robotaxi ride-hailing service in Guangzhou’s Huangpu District in the second half of 2023, which will allow users to call a G9 autonomous vehicle through a designated WeChat mini-program.
The G9, being the first hardware-unmodified autonomous vehicle with mass production capabilities, has lowered development, production, and maintenance costs, and has revolutionized the traditional Robotaxi model.
XPeng anticipates that its G9-based Robotaxi service will be able to operate on a large scale, thanks to its lower overall cost and improved hardware-software integration and stability.
Furthermore, the G9 will join the company's production vehicles in a parallel training system, which will boost the availability, scale, and diversity of training data. XPeng's G9 utilizes XNet, China's first and only production-ready BEV perception technology, which generates 4D information based on dynamic object information and 3D information based on static object information.
