Pony.ai approved for autonomous heavy-duty truck demonstration application in Beijing

Beijing (Gasgoo)- Chinese autonomous driving solution provider Pony.ai recently obtained the autonomous heavy truck demonstration application notice from the Beijing High-level Automated Driving Demonstration Area (BJHAD), paving the way for autonomous trucking in real-world scenarios, in collaboration with Sinotrans.

This achievement positions Pony.ai as the first company to implement such demonstrations in Beijing.

Pony.ai's Co-founder and CEO, Dr. James Peng, commented, "The approval for the demonstration of autonomous heavy trucks in the BJHAD is the result of collaborative efforts between Pony.ai and our logistics partner, Sinotrans. Together, we will launch an autonomous truck demonstration project in Beijing, jointly exploring innovative scenarios for logistics operations in the capital city."

In December 2021, Pony.ai and Sinotrans initiated a strategic partnership and established the joint venture, Cyantron Logistics, with the aim of pioneering a novel approach to the large-scale deployment of autonomous trucks. 

This demonstration application represents a deepening of their collaboration in smart logistics. The routes involved cover multiple high-speed roads and toll stations, showcasing the technological prowess and innovative outcomes achieved by Pony.ai and Sinotrans. Moreover, based on the approved routes, they will explore multiple application routes to enhance their smart logistics platform and autonomous driving system development.

Beijing has already opened several road sections for autonomous truck road testing and demonstration applications, including the Beijing section of the Beijing-Taipei Expressway, the North Line of the Daxing Airport Expressway, and a section of the Daxing Airport Expressway.
