Gasgoo.com (Shanghai) - According to statistics collected by the China Passenger Car Association and sorted out by Gasgoo.com (Chinese), the market for Chinese brand SUVs is in a slump. Domestic-made SUV sales from January to September of this year reached only 422,900 units, increasing only 7.4 percent from the previous year. This is not only less when compared to the combined 10.1 percent year-to-year growth for all passenger cars in the same period, but is far under the 22.0 percent and 31.1 percent growth figures for the total SUV market and foreign brand SUVs. When looking at monthly sales, sales for Chinese SUVs were 9.4 percent lower this September than last year's.

Sales of the top ten Chinese SUV manufacturers, Great Wall, Chery, Zotye, Hawtai, BYD, Liebao, Haima, Jiangling (JMC), SG Automotive and Zhongxing, accounted for 90 percent of all Chinese-made SUV sales. Their sales totaled 40,200 in September and 384,900 in the period from January to September.

Among the manufacturers, Haima grew the fastest, with sales from January to September of its Haima7 (8,200 units) over double what they were last year. Haima was followed by Chery, with sales of its Tiggo SUV (75,900 units) 78.3 percent higher than last year. BYD also did well, with 23,200 S6s sold since the beginning of the year.

The other five manufacturers listed saw their sales for the first nine months of the year decrease, with Hawtai and Zotye falling the most at 25.1 percent and 22.9 percent respectively. They were followed by Liebao, Zhongxing and SG, whose sales decreased 13.3 percent, 6.1 percent and .6 percent, respectively.
