Summary: Chinese passenger vehicle sales in 2011

Gasgoo.com (Shanghai) - The top 21 domestic manufacturers sold a total of 3.94 million vehicles in China last year, recent China Passenger Car Association statistics compiled by Gasgoo.com (Chinese) revealed. The figure is only two percent higher than the amount sold in 2010. Meanwhile, December continued to exhibit the trend of negative sales growth from the previous two months, with a total of 391,100 vehicles sold during the month.

Chery led the top ten domestic manufacturer sales chart in 2011, followed by FAW Group, BYD, Geely, Great Wall, JAC, Changan Group, Haima, SAIC and Dongfeng. When compared with the 2010 rankings, BYD slipped behind FAW last year, while JAC exceeded Changan and Haima surpassed SAIC. Brilliance fell out of the top ten, seeing its stop replaced by Dongfeng.

Dongfeng Group's annual sales (which included Dongfeng Liuzhou and Zhengzhou Nissan) showed the highest rate of year-on-year growth among the manufacturers listed, with its sales figures increasing from 108,200 units in 2010 to 161,200 units in 2011. The Fengjing Joyear minivan was among the manufacturer's best performing model, with its sales increasing 140.3 percent from 2010 to 2011. 

Dongfeng was followed by Great Wall, whose sales grew 24.1 percent. Sales of the Great Wall Voleex C30 near doubled in the time period, increasing from 71,700 units in 2010 to 142,400 units in 2011. Meanwhile, Haima also witnessed double-figure sales growth, increasing a total of 13.2 percent. The Hainan-based manufacturer's sales were driven by the Haima Prince. A total of 13,600 units were sold during the year, over double the amount sold in 2010. Meanwhile, Geely, JAC and SAIC also saw their sales increase.

All other manufacturers saw their sales fall from 2010 to 2011, with BYD's falling the most at 13.7 percent. FAW Group's sales also fell significantly at 7.9 percent.

As for the month of December, SAIC's sales increased the most at 20.2 percent, with sales of the own brand SAIC MG3 increasing an astounding 236.3 percent. SAIC was followed by Haima and Dongfeng, whose sales grew 16.1 percent and 10.9 percent, respectively. BYD and Zotye's sales increased as well. Meanwhile, Chery and Great Wall saw double-figure drops in monthly sales, while Geely and Lifan's sales also fell slightly.
