Summary: Chinese passenger automobile market in September

Gasgoo.com (Shanghai) - The Chinese passenger automobile market continues to chug along in September. According to statistics from Gasgoo.com (Chinese), over 378 automobile models were sold in the country in September.

Over 220 sedan models were sold in China in September. The Buick Excelle led the sales charts with total monthly sales of 35,134 units. It was followed by the VW Lavida and Nissan Bluebird Sylphy, whose sales totaled 31,058 units and 30,028 units, respectively.

Meanwhile, the explosion in Tianjin contributed to falling sales of the Toyota Corolla in August, which is produced in the city. Sales of the Corolla in August were just slightly over 8,000 units. While sales of the model recovered back to 21,487 units in September, that’s still far less than sales volumes from previous months.

Domestic own brands manufacturers’ performance in the sedan market remained poor, with none of their models making the top ten. The best-selling own brand was the Geely EC7, whose sales totaled approximately 16,200 units. Only three other own brand models achieved sales of over 10,000 units for the month: the Changan Eado, BYD F3 and Geely FC.

Over 115 SUVs were sold in the Chinese market in September. Although the Great Wall Haval H6 continues to lead the charts as expected, SAIC-GM-Wuling’s Baojun 560 managed to shoot up to number two with total sales of 24,228 units. Other strongly performing models included the Guangqi Trumpchi GS4, whose sales have been constantly increasing since April, and the Honda CR-V, which returned to the top ten sales chart after a short absence.

Over 43 minivan models were sold in the country in September. The SAIC-GM-Wuling Hongguang continues to lead the sales charts, followed by the Baojun 730, BAIC Weiwang M20, Changan Honor, Dongfeng Lingzhi, Buick GL8, Fengguang 330, Jinbei 750, JAC Refine and Honda Odyssey. The Hongguang leads the Baojun 730 by a margin of over 22,000 units, confidently asserting its dominance in the segment.
