Summary: Foreign brand automobile sales in China
According to statistics collected by the China Passenger Car Association and reported on by Gasgoo.com (Chinese), a total of 1.66 million passenger automobiles were sold in China in the month of April. While the figure is down 12.9% from the amount sold in March, it is up from last year’s figure. Sedan, MPV and microcar sales, which respectively totaled 836,425 units, 135,178 units and 324,423 units, fell 3.9%, 24.2% and 57% year-on-year. Meanwhile, SUV sales grew 15.1%, totaling 689,387 units.
VW models were the most popular foreign brand vehicles of the month, followed by Honda, Buick, Toyota, Nissan, Ford, Audi, Chevrolet, Hyundai and BMW. VW dominated the competition, outselling its closest rival Honda by nearly 10,000 units. April marked the second month in a row in which Honda ranked second place, due in large part to the popularity of models like the CR-V, XR-V, Vezel and Civic. Close behind were Buick, Toyota and Nissan, with total monthly sales of 92,000 units, 87,000 units and 81,000 units, respectively.
Ford remained in sixth place this month again, with total sales of 49,000 units, while Audi and Chevrolet rose one and two places respectively. Mercedes-Benz, which ranked in ninth place last month, fell out of the top ten in April with total sales of just under 35,000 units. It was overtaken by Hyundai and BMW.
