EV startup Human Horizons finishes development of Level 4 automated valet parking system

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Chinese EV startup Human Horizons announced on September 14 it has fulfilled the development of the Level 4 fully automated valet parking (AVP) in Shanghai and put the new technical fruit into trial production.

The Level 4 AVP has been proved available in the HiPhi X, the startup's first mass-produced BEV model. The company said this is China's first V2X (vehicle-to-everything)-enabled Level 4 AVP system.

By virtue of roadside perception facilities like LiDAR, and other communications and computing devices installed at parking lots, the company’s AVP is able to recognize and track a vehicle's location and nearby obstacles, and send the information including the vehicle dispatching, position and surrounding obstacles to the in-car system banking on 5G-enabled V2X system, so as to move the car into the right parking spot without human intervention.

The reliance on V2X system can help the AVP system downplay such problems as poor GPS signal and large blind spots, which are difficult to overcome by merely using single-car intelligence.

The new technical product will be first used in the HiPhi X SUV, which is set to hit the market at Beijing International Automotive Exhibition in late September, with production planned at the end of 2020, and delivery starting from 2021.

The production version of the forthcoming model will be powered by an electric motor that churns out up to 200kW, enabling a NEDC-rated range of 610km, according to China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. With a drag coefficient of 0.27Cd, the vehicle can sprint from standstill to 100km/h within 3.9 second.
