Tesla launches first V4 Superchargers in China, open to non-Tesla EVs

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On June 30, Tesla announced the official rollout of its first batch of V4 Supercharger stations in China, with sites now operational in highway service areas across Shanghai, Gansu, Zhejiang, Chongqing, and other regions.

These V4 Superchargers feature six layers of safety protection, including water and rain resistance, and are now accessible to non-Tesla electric vehicles.

Tesla first hinted at the arrival of V4 Superchargers in China back in January.

According to public information, the V4 units support charging speeds of up to 500 kW for electric passenger vehicles and up to 1.2 MW for Tesla's commercial Semi trucks. Compared to the widely deployed V3 Superchargers in China—whose peak output is around 250 kW—the V4 version effectively doubles peak charging capacity.

The new V4 chargers also come with a physical payment terminal, longer cables compatible with electric vehicles from other manufacturers, and CCS connectors. This allows non-Tesla EV drivers to charge without needing a separate adapter.

In addition to faster speeds and broader compatibility, V4 cabinets are designed for efficiency and scalability. Each cabinet can power up to eight charging stalls, reduces the physical footprint required per site, and speeds up deployment. Tesla notes that the V4 cabinet hardware is engineered for reliability and offers triple the power density of previous generations at a lower cost.

As of June 2025, Tesla's global Supercharger network has surpassed 70,000 stalls. In the Chinese Mainland, Tesla has built and opened over 2,100 supercharging stations with more than 11,600 Superchargers, as well as over 2,500 destination chargers. Its network now covers every provincial capital and major municipality in the country, with more V4 Superchargers expected to go live nationwide in the near future.
