Gasgoo.com (Shanghai December 25) - Results from the first C-NCAP crash tests to use the new 2012 standards were released this week, the Beijing Morning Post reported today. The standards were implemented by the China Automotive Technology and Research Center.

Several vehicles managed to achieve a five star rating according to the revised standards: the FAW-VW Magotan, Great Wall C50, Buick Enclave and Guangqi Fiat Viaggio. Meanwhile, the Dongfeng Nissan Venucia D50 and Dongfeng Honda Ciimo own brand cars obtained C-NCAP ratings of four stars.

According to CATARC Director Zhao Hang, the above vehicles and any essential auto parts were purchased directly from manufacturer dealerships anonymously by C-NCAP staff. The vehicles underwent emission and backlash tests, as well as three different crash test programs. C-NCAP then rated the vehicles according to their results in these five programs, with a perfect score being 62 points. Applicable vehicles also had their electronic stability control systems tested by third party organizations, after which any additional points were added to their initial rating.
