24.6% Growth Marks a Strong Start: Is Great Wall Pickup Changing Course?

Edited by Taylor From Gasgoo

Great Wall Pickup kicked off 2026 with momentum. Official data shows global sales hit 15,350 units in January — a 24.6% jump from a year earlier.

The flagship Poer lineup led the charge, supported by a broad range of core models that drove this impressive expansion.

Great Wall Pickup has dominated China's pickup sales for 28 consecutive years, and this sustained lead is no accident. But what underpins this surge? And where does the confidence come from to hold its ground at the core of the industry?

Global Growth of 24.6%, Driven by Strong Overseas Sales

In January, Great Wall Pickup leveraged a comprehensive product matrix and extensive market reach to deliver steady global growth, with gains across multiple segments.

The company disclosed global sales of 15,350 units for the month, marking a 24.6% year-on-year increase.

Great Wall Motor's global sales totaled 90,312 units in January, up 11.59%. As a core business unit, the pickup division outpaced the group's overall growth rate, serving as a key engine for the company's expansion.

Overseas markets were the standout performer, growing significantly faster than the global average. Sales abroad reached 5,666 units in January — a 36.7% surge that outpaced the overall growth rate by 12.1 percentage points.

Great Wall Pickup was among the first Chinese brands to expand globally and now operates in more than 60 countries and regions. It consistently ranks at the top of Chinese pickup sales in key markets like Australia, South Africa, and Chile. This overseas growth is built on a foundation of extensive channel distribution, localized product adaptation, and deep brand cultivation.

A broad-based surge across its model lineup underpinned January's performance, with the Poer series maintaining its lead. Global sales of the Poer hit 11,457 units in January, a 38.7% jump. The model has now sold over 10,000 units for 63 consecutive months, retaining its title as China's best-selling pickup.

Built on the Tank platform, the premium Poer lineup spans three series — passenger, commercial, and off-road — catering to diverse needs ranging from family commuting and business logistics to outdoor adventures.

Beyond the Poer, the Wingle and King Kong Poer models also delivered solid results, with the three models sweeping the top three spots for single-model sales in January.

The Wingle series targets the value-oriented commercial segment, offering reliable performance and practical features designed for short-haul transport and daily operations by individual merchants and small businesses.

The King Kong Poer bridges the gap between work and family use. Its flexible interior, easy handling, and strong value proposition have earned it praise from both commercial users and households.

With the Poer focusing on the premium segment and driving the shift toward more passenger-like, intelligent, and upscale pickups, the three lines complement each other. Together, they are fueling the overall rise in Great Wall Pickup's sales.

Where Does the Confidence Come From?

Great Wall Pickup's strong performance in January 2026 is the result of years of deep cultivation in the segment and its efforts to cement its industry leadership.

Long focused on R&D, production, and sales, the brand has invested heavily in innovation and market penetration. It has now been China's sales champion for 28 straight years, with global cumulative sales exceeding 2.85 million units. It stands as a flagship brand for China's pickup industry and a key representative of the country's automakers going global.

Looking at the full year, Great Wall Pickup's global sales topped 180,000 units in 2025, reaching 181,660 — a 2.57% annual increase. Its share of the domestic retail market is approaching 50%.

The brand's accumulated influence, comprehensive product lineup, vast distribution network, and product quality have not only guaranteed January's growth but also demonstrated the stability of its market position.

Throughout 2025, the company ramped up R&D and strategic planning. By focusing on evolving user needs and industry trends, it launched several new models to round out its portfolio.

Notably, the Shanhai Poer Hi4-T, a premium off-road hybrid pickup, officially launched in 2025.

It features a 2.0-liter plug-in hybrid system with a combined output of 300 kW and 750 N·m of torque. The Shanhai Poer Hi4-T offers an NEDC pure electric range of 115 km and a combined fuel consumption of just 1.7 L/100 km. It also comes equipped with professional off-road gear, including intelligent electronic four-wheel drive, a rear axle electronic differential lock, and Tank Turn.

Also launched was the V6 Fire Cannon, a track-oriented pickup designed for racing enthusiasts and hardcore off-roaders, boasting robust power and specialized off-road equipment.

Additionally, the 2026 versions of the Poer and King Kong Poer hit the market in 2025, featuring upgrades in design, interiors, and smart technology. The 2026 Poer offers 2.0-liter gasoline and 2.4-liter diesel variants, priced between 126,800 and 159,800 yuan. These moves enhanced value and competitiveness to meet diverse user demands.

In 2025, Great Wall Pickup led in both domestic sales and exports, securing the top spot in both categories for the year. Overseas sales reached 63,784 units, a 17% increase, making international markets a key pillar of growth.

To expand its global footprint, Great Wall Pickup accelerated its international strategy in 2025. The 2.4-liter version of the Poer rolled out across key markets including Australia, New Zealand, the Middle East, Chile, and South Africa.

Great Wall Motor's Brazil plant began production in August 2025. The facility initially manufactures high-value models like the 2.4-liter Poer, optimizing the company's production layout in Latin America and improving supply efficiency and local service capabilities abroad.

The company is also executing a localization strategy, integrating into local cultures. By sponsoring international events, Great Wall Pickup is blending Chinese pickup culture with local traditions to boost its global brand influence.

The steady progress of 2025 has not only solidified Great Wall Pickup's leadership and expanded its user base, but also laid the groundwork for early 2026 growth. It signals the brand's determination to keep pushing in the global pickup market and pursue high-quality development.
