Shanghai, February 2 (Gasgoo.com) Brilliance Auto, parent of Brilliance China Automotive Holdings Ltd., recently said it would launch four large new projects in 2010 and 2011, which will cost a total of 12 billion yuan ($1.76 bln), SinoCast reported.
According Brilliance Auto chairman Qi Yuminto, the new projects are mostly second-phase projects. The investment will reach 5 billion yuan in the second-phase factory of BMW Brilliance Automotive Ltd., a joint venture between Brilliance China and BMW AG.
The venture's first-stage plant in Shenyang, northeast China, will have its production capacity lifted from the current 10,000 vehicles to 100,000, and the second-phase factory's annual capacity is designed to reach 200,000 vehicles.
Also there will be a new A-class car project for Zhonghua-brand sedans independently developed by Brilliance Auto, and the second phase of its production base in Mianyang, southwest China with an capacity of 250,000 vehicles.
In addition, the Egypt-based facility of the Chinese automaker will be expanded, and the second phase of the plant will be used to make the BMW 7 Series.
Brilliance Auto sold 348,000 vehicles last year, up 22.1% and ranking 9th among Chinese automakers. The company expects its sales in 2010 to break the mark of 500,000 vehicles.
