Gasgoo Munich- Geely has placed another crucial piece in its power battery strategy. Baoji Shanju Battery Co. has officially launched as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Zhejiang Geely Auto Parts Industry Co. The new entity boasts a registered capital of 50 million yuan.
Situated within the Baoji Comprehensive Bonded Zone in Shaanxi province, the firm's operations span the full spectrum: battery manufacturing, sales, component production, and charging infrastructure management. Industry insiders view this as a pivotal step for Geely to tighten its national supply chain—particularly by strengthening its industrial footprint in the northwest.
Ren Xiangfei, the newly appointed head, is a central figure in Geely's battery division. Beyond his role as executive vice president at Geely Automotive Research Institute —where he has long spearheaded R&D in battery technology—he also oversees existing Shanju battery entities in Guiyang, Xiangtan, Zhejiang, and Chengdu.
The parent company's legal representative, Li Chuanhai, serves as vice president of Geely Auto Group and president of Geely Automotive Research Institute , bringing deep expertise in supply chain management. Putting a senior executive at the helm while entrusting day-to-day operations to a technical leader underscores the automaker's intense focus on in-house battery development and manufacturing.

The launch in Baoji is no isolated incident; it is the latest chapter in a battery strategy that Geely has been building for over a decade. Recognizing the irreversible shift toward new-energy vehicles, the automaker began vertically integrating its supply chain years ago. Since kicking off battery investments in 2013, it has established three core pillars: Yaoning, Jidian, and Shanju.
As the unit dedicated to power battery R&D and production, Shanju Battery bears the responsibility of executing this strategy. Recent years have seen a flurry of technological breakthroughs, including the 800V Gold Brick battery, the high-energy-density Aegis Short Blade battery, and the Gold Brick cell series for strong hybrid systems.
Leveraging Shanju Battery as a pivot, Geely has constructed a supply network radiating across the country. The Guiyang base already produces 180,000 battery pack sets annually, while the Xiangtan project boasts a planned capacity of 10 GWh. With entities also established in Zhejiang and Chengdu, the company is rapidly piecing together a national production map—spanning the southwest in Guiyang and Sichuan, central China in Xiangtan, and the east coast in Zhejiang.
This latest move in Baoji, Shaanxi, is poised to become a critical node for unlocking supply chains in the northwest. By linking with existing facilities, it will help meet battery demand across Geely's various brands—marking another step toward the automaker's goal of a complete, self-controlled supply chain, from individual cells to finished battery packs.
