Shanghai, September 8 (Gasgoo.com) Shanghai GM, the joint venture between Shanghai Auto and General Motors, said it will recall 511 Cadillac Escalade due to defect in windshield washer fluid heater system, said xinhuanet.com yesterday.

A short circuit in the circuit board that controls the system could cause a grounding wire to overheat. That could lead to smoke and the malfunctioning of other electrical components, according to Shanghai GM. In rare cases, it could cause a fire.

Shanghai GM has already submitted a report to China' top quality supervisor to recall these defective autos, sources said. The recall involves 511 Cadillac Escalade cars in China, manufactured between August 29, 2006 and November 14, 2007.

As time is needed for preparing new parts, Shanghai GM will take two steps to fix the problem: first, to install a fuse that will shut off the system in the event of a short circuit; second, to replace the faulty parts for customers free of charge when the new parts are ready and to resume the heating function.
