Opel’s SUV to enter Chinese market in late Sept

Germany-based automaker Opel will introduce its sports utility vehicle (SUV) model Antara to the Chinese market at the end of this month, Opel’s first SUV model that brought into the country, as per industry sources.

The model, which made its introduction in Paris last year, is a four-wheel drive SUV built on the same platform with Chervolet Captiva. Antara is powered by 2.4 liter Ecotec engine with a maximum output of 140 horsepower or a 3.2 liter V6 engine with the maximum output of 227 horsepower.

Antara, which is a mid-size crossover SUV model launched by General Motors Corp, the largest foreign passenger car maker in China, will be preliminarily priced at 324,900 yuan per unit.

Franchisers of the auto maker in China announced that they have already started to receive advance booking from customers.

Captiva, Chervolet’s best selling compact SUV, had arrived in China last year, and the imported U.S.-made SUV is priced between 240,000 yuan ($31,975) and 280,000 yuan ($37,303) per unit in the Chinese market, according to industry sources.
