Beijing to run 1000 new energy vehicles in '09
Shanghai, June 17 (Gasgoo.com) Beijing city announced yesterday that it will put 1,000 new energy vehicles on trial run this year in the public transportation and sanitation sectors, xinhuanet.com reported.
According to Yang Weiguang, deputy director of the Beijing municipal commission of science and technology, there were 50 electric buses put into service during the 2008 Olympics Games in Beijing and this year another 50 electric buses will come into the city's public transportation.
The authorities said that later this year 860 hybrid buses will join the current 10 hybrid buses running in Beijing, and about 30 electric sanitation vehicles will also come into service.
Beijing Bus Group has signed a deal with Beiqi Foton Motor to buy 450 Foton AUV hybrid buses and 350 chassis of this bus model in 2009. The bus purchasing will meet the compulsory safety and emission standards.
Most of the existing buses in Beijing are gasoline-fueled internal combustion engine buses, and from now Beijing's buses are coming up to the Euro IV, Euro V, Euro VI standards, said Yang.
