Webasto Sunroofs boosts production capacity in China

Shanghai, June 19 (Gasgoo.com) Webasto Sunroofs Inc, one of the world's leading suppliers of sunroofs and parking heaters, broke ground on a new facility at Minhang district of Shanghai, on Thursday.

Mr.Masaru Otsuka, President of Webasto Asia Pacific region and Mr Brett Healy, President of Webasto's North American subsidiary, attend the ground breaking ceremony.

One day before the ceremony at Shanghai, Webasto's another new facility officially started operation in northeast China's Changchun city. The two new facilities will boost Webasto's total production capacity in China to 2 million sets a year.

Webasto has set up five wholy owned subsidiaries so far in China since it set foot on the market in 1996. Its customers include almost all major OEMs in China such as Beijing Benz-Daimler Chrysler Automotive Corp, FAW Volkswagen Automobile Co, Shanghai Volkswagen Automobile Co, Shanghai GM Corp, as well as homegrown automakers involving Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC), FAW Group Corp, Chery Automobile Co and so on.

In 2008 Webasto sold more than 1.2 million sets of auto sunroofs in China, holding 60 percent of the country's auto sunroof market.
