Three Chinese auto factories step in Rio de Janeiro

Chinese automakers BYD Co., Ltd. and Chery Automobile Co., Ltd. want to establish factories in Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil, said the governor Sergio Cabral on July 2, 2009.

Chery Automobile said on the same day that it planned to carry out auto trial run in Brazil. Last April, the company announced the scheme of setting up a factory in the country with investment of USD 700 million and production capacity of 150,000 vehicles a year, but did not fixed on the location later.

Another Chinese automaker Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Co., Ltd.  is also set to build a factory in Rio de Janeiro's Acu Port industrial zone, the company announced on July 1, 2009. Earlier, Mr. Cabral expressed its wish that an electric vehicle factory would be established in his state.

In addition, other reports said that Chery Automobile planned to sell 15,000 cars in Brazil a year from 2010.
