Shanghai, July 22 (Gasgoo.com) Chongqing Lifan Automobile Co, a subsidiary of China's major motorcycle maker Chongqing Lifan Industry Group, is set to roll out its first minicar model at the end of October, Beijing Youth Daily reported today.

The first Lifan minicar model will carry a 1.3-liter engine self-developed by Lifan Auto, with peak power of 65kW. The engine's power per liter can top 50Kw, which is rare in the current minicar market.

An insider of Lifan Auto said that the 1.3-liter engine used in the Lifan minicar will lead China's major minicar brands in power, energy efficiency and eco-friendliness. All this will sharpen the Lifan minicar's competitive edge in the market.

Lifan Auto is planning a one-bllion-yuan ($147 million) manufacturing base for minicars. The first phase of the project will have an annual production capacity of 100,000 units, and the output will nearly double when the second phase is completed.

In addition to the minicar project, Lifan Auto has started building an engine plant with an investment of 1.8 billion yuan. The factory's construction will be completed next year.
