Citroen H1 China sales up 11.4%, Elysee most
Shanghai, July 30 (Gasgoo.com) PSA Peugeot Citroen, Europe's second-largest carmaker, said yesterday that its Citroen brand's first-half sales in the Chinese market grew 11.4% from a year earlier, but this growth rate was slower than that in the European market, xinhuanet.com reported today.
PSA Group sold 1,587,000 vehicles in the first half of 2009, down 14% from its sales in the same period of last year. Global sales of its Citroen-brand vehicles hit 650,000 units in the first half, with China sales up 11.4% year on year.
In the first six months, there were nearly 40,000 New Elysee cars sold in China, up 52.4%. The Citroen models now available in the Chinese market include: the imported C4 Coupe, C4 Picasso, C5 and C6, and locally-made C2, Xsara Picasso, C-Quatre and Elysee. PSA has a joint venture with China's Dong Motor Corp.
Firs-half sales of the Citroen brand cars saw the fastest growth in the European market, up 31%, 39.8%, 38.9% and 6% in Germany, Spain, Russia and France respectively, all reaching the record high.
The joint venture Dongfeng Peugeot Citroen Automobile (DPCA) has suspended the project of setting up its third plant in central China's Wuhan city as the its current two plants have not operated to the full capacity yet.
