GM cars to promote China Telecom 3G services
The Shanghai branch of China Telecom Corporation Ltd. plans to launch a special service for the customers of General Motors Corp. (GM), according to Chen Xiaoqin, an executive of the branch.
In detail, General Motors will equip a certain number of its new cars with EVDO technology-based information and security systems, which serve as both mobile phones and instruments for distress calls.
Branded with Cadillac, the first of such cars is predicted to roll off GM's factory in September 2009, and each of them will have an auto-borne phone number. Besides, the Shanghai branch is set to provide telecom service packages for the cars' owners.
The branch started offering two services in July to inform local car owners of the information about commodity price discounts, traffic, and parking.
In addition, China Telecom has established 1,580 outdoor base stations for its 3G network in Shanghai, where the company is to enhance the network's coverage with an investment of CNY 1.8 billion this year.
