Shanghai, August 27 (Gasgoo.com) Chinese carmaker Beijing Automotive (BAIC) is mulling on the possibility of building a production facility in Lithuania as it looks to secure a base with access to the European market.

According to a report by Baltic Business Daily, the company is looking to establish the factory alongside a distribution and logistics centre as it seeks to expand its presence in China and world auto market.

"Beijing Automotive Industry Holding hopes to enter the European market both in terms of logistics and production and trade," said Daumantas Lapinskas, an aide to Lithuanian Economy Minister Dainius Kreivys. "The company sees Lithuania as a potential partner and will explore the market."

The report said BAIC officials have already met with Lithuanian government officials though no preliminary agreement or memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed.
