Shanghai GM sales double to 63,303 cars in Aug
Shanghai, September 2 (Gasgoo.com) Shanghai GM, a passenger car venture between General Motors and SAIC Motor, sold 63,303 vehicles in August, nearly double the figure of a year earlier, media reported today.
The robust sales, helped by new models and an industry-wide rebound, also jumped from the JV's July sales of 56,489 units, and set its new monthly sales record, General Motors said yesterday in a statement.
Last month, Shanghai GM sold 38,905 Buick cars, up 103% from a year earlier, including 7,887 units of the revamped Buick LaCrosse, more than 7,000 new Buick Regal sedans, and 17,474 Buick Excelle sedans. The Buick LaCrosse and Regal series totally sold 17,149 units.
Sales of Chevrolet-brand vehicles grew by 99% year-on year to 23,771 units in August.
New models, including the 1.6Turbo Buick Regal and new Cadillac SRX sport-utility vehicles, are scheduled to be launched later this year.
Shanghai GM's sales boom in the usually slower sales season came as Chinese buyers rushed to make their purchases before auto tax cuts expire at the end of this year.
