Shanghai, October 14 (Gasgoo.com) Dongfeng Motor Co., Nissan Motor's Chinese venture with Dongfeng Motor Group, will recall 51,813 vehicles in China due to a problem in the steering system, Dow Jones reported today, citing the country's quality regulator.

Dongfeng Motor will recall 18,146 X-Trail SUVs and 33,667 Qashqai vehicles, a statement at the website of China's General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine said yesterday.

The X-Trail SUVs to recall were produced between March 31, 2008 and August 26, 2009, and the Qashqai vehicles were produced between February 18, 2008 and May 22, 2009.

The steering problem causes noises when the vehicles make turns, or could result in turns that aren't smooth, the statement said, adding that the problem may make it difficult to control a vehicle's direction in extreme cases.

Dongfeng said franchised dealers would inform customers of the recall through the mail or by phone.
