Shanghai, October 21 (Gasgoo.com) The first car built for the program of "the Independent Innovation Capacity Building for China's High-Level Automobiles" made its debut at the 2009 China (Changsha) Sci-Tech Achievements Transfer Fair on Oct. 18. in the capital city of central China's Hunan province, local media reported.

The vehicle was driven to the fair by Zhong Zhihua, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and president of Hunan University. The car is seen as a symbol that the relevant technology with independent intellectual property rights on car manufacturing has become mature in China.

"Up to now many initial results have been reaped in the program with a variety of cars developed and a lot of technical bottlenecks tackled. All these indicate that China has acquired the independent capacity on developing entire high-level cars," Zhong said.

The car is a major achievement of the program sponsored by the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Education, the Hunan Provincial Government as well as the Changsha Municipal Government.

"It is a middle-to-high level product with independent property rights and its performance is as good as the Audi A6 series made in Germany," the English news release of the Hunan provincial government stated at its Web site.
